Our wish for every client and community member is to live with dignity, stability, hope, and genuine opportunity. We envision children growing up safe, healthy, confident, and surrounded by families and communities equipped to help them thrive. We wish for parents and caregivers to have access to culturally responsive mental health care, quality healthcare, stable housing, nutritious food, meaningful employment, reliable transportation, and educational opportunities without shame, discrimination, or unnecessary barriers.

For our students and families, we especially wish to provide Mental Wellness Kits and Hygiene Kits. Mental Wellness Kits can offer comforting, practical tools that help children and adults manage stress, anxiety, grief, trauma, and emotional challenges. Hygiene Kits can provide essential personal-care items that allow students to attend school feeling clean, confident, prepared, and ready to learn. For families facing financial hardship, these kits offer immediate relief while preserving dignity.

Our larger wish is to build a community where families receive support before a crisis leads to child welfare involvement, homelessness, school failure, hospitalization, or justice-system contact. We want children to remain safely connected to their families, culture, schools, and neighborhoods. We wish for young people to be heard, valued, protected, and given opportunities to create joyful futures.

The African American Wellness Center for Children & Families believes every family deserves more than survival. They deserve healing, belonging, economic security, and the power to shape their own future. With compassionate partners and community investment, we can turn these wishes into lasting change for generations throughout San Diego County.
